Academic Programs

The Master of Athletic Training is an accredited program of the University of Arkansas that focuses on creating patient-centered and evidence-informed health care providers who serve as advocates for their patients both on and off the field to improve health-related quality of life. The program has both traditional M.A.T. (post-baccalaureate) and accelerated M.A.T. (5-year B.S. in Exercise Science to M.A.T.) options.

The Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Exercise Science prepare candidates for career options including physical education teaching, coaching, athletic training or preparation for programs in allied health. The 4+1 program leads to a B.S. and M.S. in EXSC at once. The online Master of Education in Physical Education is designed for current professionals in these fields who desire further education. Doctorates in Health, Sport and Exercise with Exercise Science Concentration or Kinesiology Pedagogy Concentration are offered.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Health, Sport and Exercise Science is a research-focused degree, designed to prepare future scholars to contribute to their chosen discipline through teaching, research and service. Ph.D. students choose from four concentrations: Exercise Science, Health Behavior and Health Promotion, Kinesiology Pedagogy, and Recreation and Sport Management

The Bachelor of Science in Education in Teaching K-12 Physical Education and Health prepares graduates to effectively work as a teacher or coach in the K-12 school environment. The Master of Education in Physical Education is taught online, to meet the needs of professionals in the field (physical education teachers, athletic directors, coaches) who want further education and an advanced degree. A Doctor of Philosophy with a concentration in Exercise Science or Kinesiology Pedagogy is offered.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health trains students for entry-level positions found in government agencies, health corporations and community non-profit organizations. The Master of Public Health prepares students for advanced and entry-level positions in the private and public health sectors. A Ph.D. in Health, Sport and Exercise Science with Health Behavior and Health Promotion Concentration is offered.

The Bachelor of Science in either Recreation Management or Sport Management prepares students for a variety of entry-level careers in college and professional sports organizations; fitness centers; municipal, state and national park managers; and youth-serving agencies. The Master of Education in Recreation and Sport Management prepares to pursue careers primarily in intercollegiate athletic administration, but also more generally in public recreation administration, commercial recreation, sport management, community recreation, and outdoor recreation. A Ph.D. in Health, Sport and Exercise Science with Recreation and Sport Management Concentration is offered.
