Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships

To receive a graduate assistantship, a student must be accepted by the University of Arkansas Graduate School and be admitted to a HHPR graduate program. Graduate assistantship stipends vary in amounts depending on work assignments, but all include a waiver of in-state or out-of-state tuition.

Stipend amounts are subject to change but currently range between $15,915 and $19,096. Additional funding is available for qualified doctoral students in terms of fellowships. Doctoral graduate assistants who qualify as Doctoral Academy Fellows currently receive $12,000/year plus tuition and Distinguished Doctoral Fellows receive $22,000/year plus tuition. Priority deadline date for graduate assistantship consideration is Jan. 15.

Minimum qualifications for fellowships:

  1. Doctoral Academy — GRE of 300 on combined verbal/quantitative portions, GRE writing score of 5.0, graduate grade-point average of 3.65
  2. Distinguished Doctoral — GRE of 308 on combined verbal/quantitative portions, GRE writing score of 5.5, graduate GPA 3.85

Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. For more information, contact Amanda Sullivan, Ph.D., 479-575-4099 or alsulliv@uark.edu.

The Benjamin Franklin Lever Fellowship is designed to enhance access to graduate education by providing financial assistance to students who meet one or more of the following criteria: have significant financial need, are first-generation college students, have a history of overcoming challenges, or originate from a geographic area that is less well-represented at the university. To accomplish these purposes, the program funds a limited number of fellowships to qualified incoming graduate students who enroll in an on-campus program at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville campus.
