Dr. Washington is married to Lynette Keppeler Washington. They have four children, Jeremiah Aaron, Maiesha Rae, Lydia Amaru, and Chloe Lucille.
Dr. Washington's research laboratory employs molecular biology techniques with in vivo and in vitro models examining muscle plasticity. Currently Dr. Washingon's laboratory is examining cellular signlaing within skeletal muscle induced by aging, obesity, cancer cachexia, regeneration, or altered loading.

Dr. Washington is an associate professor in exercise science. He received his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina under the mentorship of Dr. James Carson in his Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory. Dr. Washington while at the University of South Carolina worked on various projects that included skeletal muscle hypertrophy, skeletal muscle atrophy, skeletal muscle regeneration, and cancer cachexia. Dr. Washington's doctoral work focused on the role of Interleukin-6 during skeletal muscle hypertrophy and recovery from disuse atrophy. Previously, Dr. Washington taught Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and he oversaw the Anatomy and Physiology labs at the University of Evansville in Indiana.
